Update #3

Staffing Notifications

Assignments for next year were  communicated to Support Staff on Friday. If you haven’t heard from your principal, speak to them directly.

This past week the District 9 OSSTF held their Annual Meeting. The District Annual meeting invites members of all bargaining units (Educational Support Staff, Professional Support Staff Personnel, Continuing Education Instructors, Link and Assessment Employees, Teachers and Occasional Teachers)  represented by OSSTF in District 9 to attend and provide input and direction to the Executive for the upcoming year.  If you weren’t able to make it this year I encourage you to you make time to attend an OSSTF meeting, workshop or event in 2015-2016.

At this meeting, Melodie Snary received her Honorary Membership. Melodie has tirelessly served the membership of OSSTF District 9 for many many years. Her commitment to defending

and protecting public education and educational workers is second to none and I can’t thank her enough for all she has done for the members of OSSTF District 9. She is a well deserving recipient of this award.  I invite you all to attend Melodie Snary’s retirement on June 24th  4:30 pm at Ambassador Golf Course. It is an Open House event, so stop in and wish Melodie well in her retirement!!

Bargaining Update

As advised previously, D9 ESS have been placed into resumption. Resumption means that OSSTF provincial office is responsible for bargaining our collective agreement. On Tuesday this past week, provincial office filed for conciliation with the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

What is conciliation?

Conciliation is a process by which a trade union or an employer can ask the Ontario Ministry of Labour for help in resolving their differences so that they can reach a collective agreement. Either party may apply to the ministry. If parties are in negotiations, they must use, the government’s conciliation services before they can get into a position to engage in a strike or lock-out

Tuesday June 16th is the Rally for Education!

Not only do we need to continue to put pressure on the government to reach fair collective agreements, we need to also let our local trustees know that they need to stop administering cuts to programs and services to students. On June 16th, the board of trustees are expected to pass a budget that eliminates direct services to students.

All Education Workers and Supporters are asked to demonstrate our displeasure at the last Public Board Meeting of the year. This is our way of demonstrating our commitment to public education and also our call to local trustees to pressure OPSBA (Ontario Public School Boards Association) to back away from strips to our collective agreements

The Rally for Education will take place outside of the Greater Essex County District School Board at

451 Park Street West – Windsor – Ontario
Tuesday, June 16, 2015
from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm (these times will accommodate members from both the secondary and elementary panels to attend after school)

After the rally we will meet at the Foundary Pub on Ouellette for Appetizers and Collegiality.

Wynne  won’t stop being dishonest to Ontarians

Kathleen Wynne has mismanaged not only the Education file, she is moving forward selling Hydro One. This move makes no sense what so ever as it is an asset that generates revenue for the province. Where is the lost revenue going to be found?? Education? Hospitals? Childcare? It is just wrong.
